Hidden Lakes Park is a lovely spot for a quick hike in a Martinez suburban neighbourhood. The secret lakes can be reached from the parking lots in a brief 10 minute walk in either direction. The park has a beautiful new football field. They’ve got a snack bar, full car park, and toilets. There are also diamonds of baseball, and a system of play. The paths to the hills and secret lake lie, if you walk behind those. It’s good that if you want a little elevation or a quick walk through the trails you can customize them. The pond is amazing and you can go fishing in it too. There are plenty of photo ops in this park, with trees, ponds, and bridges.
There are lots of different things you might do there. A few different playgrounds, a sand / volleyball area, baseball field, soccer fields. The playground is lined and looks good on the feet. The new football field is fantastic.
It’s also a great trail location for hikers. Hidden Lakes Park Loop is a slightly trafficked 1.8 mile loop trail close to Martinez, California. The trail is suitable for all ages, and used mainly for hiking and trail running. There are nice paths that wind around the hills and wetlands, too. Despite being fairly small, there are miles of trails in the Park. A stream cuts through the park and naturally damms at a few spots giving the park its name to the “lakes" portion. The hidden part stems from how small the ponds are relative to the landscape around them. The above pond has a water aerating pool. All the limestone hills tower offer plenty of variety to the hiker / trail runner. People really like the bridges on the trails that span lakes / ponds / streams where mini ravines have been cut by the current. Hidden lakes is one hiking spot in the East Bay Area and Martinez which stays low-key. One can even fish in a pond with their kids and catch some pretty good fish.
It’s the perfect place to have your kid’s birthday party, or bring your family for a picnic, take the dog for a stroll, or get some exercise like I try to do everyday. There are always families and dog owners around Secret Valley / Lakes out and about so it always feels really secure.
This is most beautiful when the grass is green through winter / spring but at any time of year it is still a peaceful and rejuvenating place.
