Nestled in a pocket of suburbs near Briones, this park is surprisingly wide enough to accommodate many people but it is rarely crowded. There are 2 playgrounds, one for the smaller group and one for children up to the age of 10. There are open tennis courts, a few bbq areas, a basketball court, 2 swing areas and a number of large grassy areas with plentiful shade trees. Parking is accessible in many locations, with a dedicated parking lot located closest to the tennis courts. There are wonderful views of the surrounding open space and serenity.
It’s a really cool park which is a true secret gem. There is a wide grass field ideal for playing football and a half-court basketball. Small children and a bigger play system are both very modern and clean. The park is tucked away in a peaceful neighborhood with extensive tree cover. This park is in a neighborhood set back from the streets. There are two nice outdoor areas, plenty of grass for outdoor and running and plenty of shade.
Golden Hills is located in a quiet suburban area off Bernice Avenue but the drive is worth it. It’s tiny and seven acres. Children and their parents were pitching and playing soccer in the large lawn field, and mothers with strollers and babies huddled at the other end.
Little ones and parents will love that Golden Hills has a sandy area for the little tots, as well as the “big kid swings" that 5-year-olds crave. It also has tennis courts, a basketball court and a picnic area all very near the playgrounds. Most of the equipment at the playground is new.
It is a well managed park with gorgeous views from the Eastern ridge to My Diablo. There is really a Hidden Lake here, a lovely photography location. Trails are relatively straightforward, they are perfect for almost everyone. There are large group picnic areas on the side of Center Ave which are ideal for birthdays, showers, or family reunions. Bathrooms are accessible on both sides of the road.
It’s in a beautiful setting, and Contra Costa’s park-weary parents will be happy to know that it has a lot of shade. It’s very convenient during hot summer days to stay in Golden Hills Park.
