This school is located on a small, waterfront campus in San Francisco, 30 miles northeast. Cal Maritime’s undergraduates can have degree programs in international business and logistics, facilities engineering technology, global studies and maritime affairs, marine engineering technology, marine transportation or mechanical engineering. More than 80% of Cal Maritime students are male and will spend at least one summer with Golden Bear, the university's training boat. On the boat, students sail the Pacific Ocean and exercise their technical and leadership skills in the classroom.
Cal Maritime has the highest work placement rates on the 23 campuses of California State University, and is the only maritime university in the West that grants a degree. Students can engage in any of the nearly 20 clubs outside the classroom and off the ship, or take part in campus events including dances, concerts, and comedy nights. Student athletes play for the Keelhaulers sports teams, which compete in the California Pacific Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The annual training cruise on our 500-foot Golden Bear Training Ship is a vital part of the campus experience. It acts as a floating classroom / laboratory where class concepts in maritime transport, engineering and technology are studied and implemented. School-sponsored, study-foreign trips provide first-hand exposure to such practices at locations around the world to those studying international business, logistics, maritime security and maritime policy.
The special Cal Maritime program blends classroom learning with advanced technology, leadership growth and global awareness. No one else is doing what we are doing! Our graduates have great career opportunities on land, in harbors and at sea.
