Joe Henderson Elementary School was founded in 1986 and officially opened in January 1987 to become the third primary school in the then Benicia Unified School District. Over the years, Joe Henderson has been honored as a prestigious California School and the Gold Ribbon School of California. Joe Henderson's students and staff, both past and present, are proud Henderson Hounds!
About Joe Henderson
Joe Henderson started his career as an eighth grade teacher in education. His favorite subject was mathematics. Mr. Henderson was just four years older than his students when he first started teaching. Later he became a director and had to keep the busses and furnaces going. For local parades, he formed a big band to play. Mr. Henderson eventually became the primary school superintendent. He was honored to be named after our school in 1986.
After School Enrichment
Joe Henderson students are invited to participate in a number of enrichment activities after-school. We are fortunate to offer numerous on-campus activities. Other programs take place in our city of Benicia. All services provide top quality content, which is delivered by highly qualified and competent staff. Please explore your suggested set of enrichment activities after school and find something that appeals to you. We want to include their hounds.
They are proud to be able to give field trips to their fourth and fifth grades. This tradition offers our Hounds rich learning opportunities in an outdoor environment. Both programs incorporate common core standards and enrich learners in the classroom. Outdoor education also focuses on environmental responsibility, collaboration, teamwork and freedom. One School, One Book
One School, One Book is designed to create a common reading experience for our schools. We have selected a chapter book that will be read to each family and staff member in the next month. In addition to reading each book, events were designed to encourage and enhance this mutual experience of reading.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a collaborative approach to educating and maintaining the whole school's behavioral goals. It is based on a proactive model that strengthens and recognizes students who can model these conducts and systems to support students with compliance expectations that are difficult to deal with. PBIS is a constructive method to control Joe Henderson's behaviour.
