The Parks and Community Services Department operates a variety of programs and services for the residents of Benicia. The Department also manages and operates 211 built park and landscaped acres plus one 577-acre regional park, 35 city-owned houses, 1 city-owned cemetery, 1 aquatic pool, and 1 community center in addition to providing a wide range of recreation programs. The Department is responsible for over 68 open space access areas, and 5 landscape and lighting districts are maintained.

Parks, Facilities and Rentals

The Park Division is responsible for providing protected landscape and park services within the city to meet the needs of the diverse user groups. The Division upgrades and retains approximately 211 built park and landscape areas including the City Cemetery and 5 Lighting and Landscape Districts, a 577-acre Regional Park, and 68 open space access areas. Furthermore the Parks Division oversees the care of the Benicia Middle School turf playing fields.

Park and Outdoor Facility Reservations

Reservations are accepted at the Parks and Community Services Department, 370 East L Street. 

No reservations can be taken by phone. 

Applicants must be 21 years of age with valid identification. 

The parks that have reservable picnic areas are Jack London, City Park, Marina Green and Pavilion, and the Benicia Community Park (which our community fondly refers to as the Big Slide Park).

Residents will book the parks or outdoor facilities one year ahead. Non-residents will book these facilities four months before their event’s scheduled date.

Refunds are not provided for outdoor installations due to rain or other environmental conditions.

Indoor Facility Reservations

We provide a wide variety of services that will suit your needs. The Clock Tower is our biggest indoor venue and is perfect for all kinds of weddings, dinners, gatherings, and meetings. Also, the Senior Center is a perfect choice if you are looking for a more private place to meet. The Benicia Community Center which has classrooms and a large multi-purpose space for special events and meetings is another great choice. Finally, if you’re looking for a decent place to host a birthday party or rent a room that’s decent for physical exercise, then the James Lemos Pool and the City Gym have fantastic facilities for that!

INSURANCE: Most indoor facilities need insurance, and select outdoor facilities, leases, which can be purchased from our office. Insurance rates differ depending on the type of event, the number of attendees, the rental period and whether alcohol will be available or not.
